At Shriners Children’s, we know that exceptional healthcare is about more than medical treatment alone. It is also about how children and families feel while receiving care. For many patients, therapy and facility dogs become trusted companions during their time at Shriners Children’s. A wagging tail, a gentle nuzzle or simply the presence of a furry friend can help reduce anxiety, ease stress and provide encouragement when it is needed most.
The Unleashing Courage campaign celebrates the extraordinary role therapy and facility dogs play in helping children navigate medical challenges. Their impact can be seen in the smiles they inspire, the comfort they provide and the courage they help unlock in every child they meet.
“When a child sees a friendly face with floppy ears and a wagging tail, everything changes,” Lady Debbie said. “What might have been a stressful day can become a brighter experience. These animals remind us that healing comes in many forms, and sometimes the smallest moments leave the biggest impression.”
Women Impacting Care 2026-2027
Women Impacting Care, chaired by Shriners International’s First Lady, is a thoughtful group of women donors, supporters and advocates who come together to highlight the programs and services that make Shriners Children’s so special. This year, under the leadership of First Lady Debbie Binder, the program Unleashing Courage focuses on the healing power of therapy and facility dogs and the comfort they bring to children and families throughout their healthcare journey.
